One day closer to my hero being home…

The Idiot Brigade Barks Again

on September 5, 2011

Today, I am one day closer to not being the only one trying to keep these crazy dogs under control!!!

Meet Jewel.

She belongs to The Ballerina.

She’s the baby of the family. She’s also the World’s Most Submissive Dog. Really. If you call her, she walks over to you, and promptly rolls over.

She’s pretty sure there is nothing you’d like to do more than hold her or pet her.

Not even My Hero, who has claimed on multiple occasions that he does not like Jewel, can resist her.

Nor can Sahara, our next Wonder Dog.

Sahara, the great big lug, belongs to The Gymnast.

Sahara kind of has a dumb jock reputation. She’s big, she’s strong, you really want her around in a fight, but she’s not so bright.

She is, however, silent most of the time, which I LOVE. When this dog barks, I tend to listen.

Sahara’s number one occupation is keeping Jewel from chewing off her ears.

It’s like David and Goliath, except Sahara always wins.

And then there’s Tally.

“Look away, I’m hideous….”

Poor Tally. She started out so cute!

And playful…

She had so much personality, my mother in law called her the Jim Carrey of Dogs.

Now, all she has left is her voice.

And boy, does she use that voice! She uses the following criteria to judge whether or not she should bark:

  • 1) There’s somebody she doesn’t know at the door.
  • 2) There’s somebody she does know at the door.
  • 3) There’s a squirrel in the back yard.
  • 4) She thinks there’s a squirrel in the back yard.
  • 5) The house is too quiet.
  • 6) The house is too loud.
  • 7) Her lone brain cell wakes up, and produces its only thought: “I should bark now.”

The worst part is she has taught the baby to bark with her.  So now, we don’t just have ONE idiot dog barking every time somebody is here (or not), we have two!!  All three of the dogs crowd the door every time somebody is there, making it nearly impossible to get to it.  Well, today, I am one day closer to having My Hero’s help corralling them.

  1. SO funny! As the owner of two dogs (and two cats), I can so relate to this. I loved your list of why she barks — substitute her whiny bark for my hound’s howl and we pretty much lead the same life. 😉

Great post. I can just see all the dogs heading for the door.
